Extension Educator
My position with MSU Extension is Food Safety Educator. My home office is in Montmorency County. I have worked for Extension for 19 years covering a variety of topics. In Extension I have presented these programs as a PA; 4-H, Better Kid Care, Parenting, Sustainable Communities, Snap-Ed and special projeccts. Food Safety is one of my favorite trainings to present. My philosophy is to work with individuals by bringing them in and participate in the process. Do be prepared to be active in my program.
Under the heading of Food Safety I teach a National program called ServSafe, this program provides training and a certificate after passing a national exam at 75% or better grade. There is a format to teach this program in 8 or 16 hour sessions. There is also a 4 ServSafe class that provides infomation without an exam. Food Preservation is taught using approved science based preservation methods, taking food from the garden to the jar. I also teach Cottage Foods; this is an entrepreneurial program directed to those individuals that may like to start their own small food business.
